It is important to remember that the abuse of an older person can happen at the hands of an individual caregiver, or in a nursing home.  Below are some examples of the forms elderly abuse can take.

Abuse

There are many different situations where nursing home abuse can occur.  However, the following are categories that generally rise to the level of abuse:

  • Physical abuse.
  • Emotional abuse.
  • Sexual abuse.
  • Financial exploitation.

Neglect

While neglect can take many forms, it is generally defined as a failure to provide for an older person’s needs as those needs relate to food, shelter, clothing, hygiene or health care.
