What Are Lacerations and Abrasions?
A laceration is a deep cut or tear, often caused by sharp objects or high-impact force. They can vary significantly in severity, from superficial cuts that only require bandaging to severe wounds that necessitate surgical intervention. Proper treatment is essential to avoid complications such as infection or scarring.
Abrasions, on the other hand, are superficial injuries resulting from the skin scraping against a rough surface. Commonly referred to as "scrapes," abrasions typically affect the outer layer of skin. Although usually less severe than lacerations, they can still be painful and require proper care to prevent infection.
