Jacob emphasizes the importance of documenting how an injury affects a client. Medical records can become an important part of establishing the injuries involved in a claim, which is why he encourages clients to be open with their medical providers about what they are experiencing rather than simply trying to “tough it out.”

“Your claim is going to be as good as the evidence you can provide. If you’re hurting, tell your doctors what’s going on. If they don’t know, they can’t document it, and that documentation can become important evidence in your case.”

One misconception Jacob frequently encounters is the idea that being involved in an accident automatically entitles someone to compensation. He explains that an injury claim still needs evidence connecting the accident to the injuries and losses for which the person is seeking compensation.

“One of the biggest misconceptions I hear is, ‘I got hit, so they owe me money.’ That’s not how it works. You still have to establish the injuries you sustained and support your claim with evidence.”

Jacob has developed particular experience with commercial vehicle accidents and says these cases often require a different strategic approach than an ordinary passenger vehicle collision. Although the underlying principles may be similar, the parties involved and the way the case develops can make commercial claims substantially more complex.

“It’s the same game and similar laws, but the way you move, the way you strategize, and the way you deal with people can be completely different.”

Texas Roots and Life Outside the Office

Born and raised in College Station, Jacob has spent his entire legal career working in the South Texas area. He appreciates the size and diversity of the city and the opportunity to work with people from different cultures, backgrounds, and communities. That variety also reinforces something he sees in his practice every day: no two clients – and no two cases – are exactly alike.

“Houston has so many people from different cultures, and you have to understand what’s important to each person. No case is ever the same, and especially here in Houston, that really rings true.”

Outside the office, Jacob likes to get out of the city when he can to go camping and fishing. When he’s closer to home, he enjoys relaxing, watching sports, playing video games, and spending time with his family and his pets, Stormy the cat and Bailee the dog.
