“A tradgedy occured in my life when my husband died in a vehicle accident. He ran off the road and hit a tree and was killed instantly. We had an Accidental Death insurance policy at the time of his death. I took the policy to the funeral home to make burial arrangements for my husband. The funeral home verified the policy and then we proceeded to make the arrangements. The policy was for 100000.00 which was more than enought to give him a nice funeral. He always said he wanted to burried in a pine box. I picked the finest pine casket I could find and made arrangements for a service for about 150 guests. About a month later, the finance company that paid the funeral home called me and told me my claim was denied and there would be no benefits paid. I was devasted and didn’t understand how this could happen. My husband had stopped at the neighborhood bar for a few drinks after work. He was however over the legal limit of intoxication. There was an intoxication clause in the policy and therefore they denied the claim. Not only had I lost my husband I was now faced with the burden of trying to pay for the funeral expenses. How could they do that? I was so discouraged and once again this became a traggic situation. How was I going to come up with that much money? “What, I think, is most important in an attorney is the combination of competence and honesty. Stewart Guss has both.
